A 250-unit apartment complex is going up on Reid School Road near its intersection with Wade Hampton Boulevard in Taylors.

West Chester at Mountain Creek, a gated apartment community, is expected to be complete in spring 2009, said Mike Bolton, senior partner with Sound Construction.

The complex will feature one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments in nine buildings, with detached garage and storage space, Bolton said.

Amenities will include a pool, business center, playground, tennis and basketball courts and a fitness center. Bolton said the complex also will have wetland and green space with walking trails.

Bolton said the company purchased the 19.6-acre property in 2005, then had to wait out the moratorium on new sewer permits imposed on the Taylors Fire and Sewer District from late 2005 until March 2007 by Western Carolina Regional Sewer Authority.

Bolton said the slumping market for mortgages nationwide actually boosts the rental market, although Greenville has been more insulated from foreclosure troubles than other parts of the country.

“What’s happened is that there are a lot of people that still need a place to live,” Bolton said.

The apartments probably will have brick and vinyl exteriors, Bolton said. Estimated prices will range from $745 a month for an 890-square-foot, one-bedroom unit to $960 a month for a 1400-square-foot, three-bedroom unit.
