More hotels eyeing Golden Strip locations

Hoteliers have begun to look with new eyes at the emergence of the Golden Strip as possible locations for new hotels along Interstate 385.

One new hotel is under construction in Simpsonville, and three different hotel companies are looking at Fountain Inn’s I-385 and 418 corridor as a possibility for hotels.

Already, a Value Place Hotel is under construction at 3025 Grandview Drive off the West Georgia Road interchange in Simpsonville.

Greenville Valued Partners purchased that 2.24-acre property in April 2007 for $525,000.

This year, they applied for a $3.75 million building permit for the hotel, which currently sits just outside Simpsonville city limits.

Two more Simpsonville locations are actively marketing for hotels, said David Dyrhaug, Simpsonville planning director, but he didn’t know at what point the market would be unable to support new hotels.

“People call and ask questions about hotels all the time, but I don’t know whether they’re seriously considering the area or not,” Dyrhaug said.

“They want to know if it’s a good fit in the area. I think it’s a good draw with Heritage Park and the plans for Heritage Park, and that could be attracting them.”
