West End restaurant owner Rick Erwin said over the weekend that he and Paul C. “Bo Aughtry III are teaming up to put an eatery in the new Courtyard by Marriott, being built next Greenville City Hall.

“It’s going to be something that doesn’t already exist,” he said. “I think this restaurant will add to the downtown fine dining.”

Erwin did not reveal the name or theme of the restaurant that will be housed inside the planned 140-room hotel.

He and Aughtry, the principal at Windsor/Aughtry Co., Inc., have scheduled a press conference for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts to discuss the deal.

“This is the part that Bo is so proud of,” he said. He said he and Aughtry have been mulling the project for about a year.

Erwin said he and Aughtry are longtime friends. Erwin, originally an Upstater, said he’s been in the restaurant business for 30 years.

“There’s going to be a lot going on,” he said.

It has already been announced that the new eatery would be a “high-end seafood restaurant,” officials have said.

Work is under way on the new $38 million hotel on the site of the old City Hall garage-plaza and fire station. It will also have a 250-car garage.

The new hotel will feature a grassy courtyard, a water wall and possibly an ice rink. The 1.6 acre site is expected to have 40,000 to 50,000 square feet of leased office space.

The project is expected to be completed the latter part of next year.

The new hotel’s design is expected to be compatible with both the Peace Center and Poinsett Corner, a condominium development planned next to the hotel.
