Guess what’s coming to Best Buy shopping center?

The developers of the Best Buy-anchored shopping center in greater Bluffton have signed another tenant — and more are expected soon.

GNC will open next to the Dollar Tree store in the shopping center, which is on U.S. 278 east of S.C. 46 and next to The Crescent.

Additionally, a traffic light on U.S. 278 at the new road leading into the center could be turned on this week. The intersection could ultimately extend across U.S. 278 to the Target-anchored Kittie’s Crossing shopping center if the Kittie’s Crossing owner pays to build an entrance there, said Colin Kinton, Beaufort County transportation engineer.

The GNC vitamin store will fill 1,642 square feet in the roughly 100,000-square-foot center when it opens in the middle of July, said Will Euart, the center’s leasing manager for Atlanta-based developer Stafford Properties.

Another seven leases are under negotiation. If all of them come together, the center, plus a 10,000-square-foot retail building being built south and east of Petco on the property, will be 80 percent full, Euart said. The retail building should be completed by early June, he said.

In addition to the Best Buy and Petco, the center has a Dollar Tree and a Carolina First Bank as tenants. Best Buy was the first business there, opening in October.

The center will gain what Euart calls “a big selling point” when the traffic light is turned on and an access road that connects the Best Buy center to nearby Home Depot opens.

The light is “hugely (important), especially with the traffic the way it is on 278 these days,” Euart said.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is installing the light. Calls to the department were not returned Monday to find out when the light might be turned on.

But Kinton said the light is almost ready to go and could be on this week. Typically, it will flash yellow for three days before being turned completely on, he said.
