More space for shops, services and restaurants may be added to the mixed-use development planned for the former Millstone Golf Course.

Riverwest Properties LLC is asking the county to rezone an additional seven acres for the Riverwest project planned for the golf course property on New Easley Bridge Road (U.S. 123).

Developers were granted their request to rezone the 241-acre site for the mixed-use development in summer 2007. The seven-acre addition has a service one zoning classification.

In a written request to the county planning and zoning commission, Frank Bridwell of Riverwest said adding the seven acres to the planned development zoning would increase the permittable commercial space by 58,570 square feet, for a total of 103,570 square feet.

Riverwest LLC anticipates a bank, grocery store, pharmacy, dry cleaners, coffee shop, food establishments, fitness center, retail shops, gift/card shop, beauty/barber shop, and other uses “with a high profile mixed-use and commercial town center style complex,” the letter said.

Plans to have up to 2,136 residential units in Riverwest have not changed, Bridwell said.
