Goody’s Family Clothing Store plans to close three Upstate stores this summer because they were “under performing,” according to a spokeswoman for the Tennessee-based retailer.

Kristin Alm, spokeswoman for Goody’s, said the chain will close its two Greenville stores, its Spartanburg store, as well as one of its three Columbia stores, possibly in June.

She said Goody’s has operated stores in Greenville and Spartanburg since 1989. Today, those stores “are not as profitable as other stores in the chain,” she said.

Alm said the Greenville and Spartanburg stores are currently “outlet stores.”

The ones in Greenville are on Woodruff Road and in Cherrydale Point on North Pleasantburg Drive, according to Goody’s Web site. The Spartanburg site is in West Gate Crossing.

She said a typical Goody’s store employs between 20 and 30 associates, all part-time.

Goody’s is a retailer of moderately priced family apparel operating more than 360 stores in 21 states, the Web site said.
