GREER — Local residents are curious about what new stores might open their doors at the recently purchased former Kmart property on Wade Hampton Boulevard.

The new owners say they plan to redevelop the property located in the heart of the Wade Hampton business district as retail space.

“We look forward to working with Passco Greer Piedmont to create an exciting redevelopment of Piedmont Plaza and bring additional retail opportunities to the community of Greer,” Marty Navarro of Greenville-based Navarro Real Estate said in a prepared statement.

“We are pleased to have acquired ownership of the property with its excellent potential for growth,” said Passco Greer Piedmont President Carey Levy.

Tractor Supply Co. and several small businesses are located at the shopping center, but the former Kmart stands empty.

The statement was released by Julie Kasper, director of corporate advertising and marketing, at Passco Companies LLC in Irvine, Calif.

Passco handles commercial and and multifamily real estate.
