GREATER GREER NEWS

One tenant that has leased space in the new Hampton Park development on Wade Hampton Boulevard in Taylors may actually be an indicator of a sagging economy.

UTI Logistics, a branch of Columbia-based Integrated Logistics Group, agreed to lease 103,000 square feet of warehouse space at the industrial center. The company provides warehouse management and transportation solutions for clients.

Business development manager Paul Mosely said some clients are experiencing a buildup of inventory due to slowing sales. He said the need for additional warehouse space arises because production of products that aren’t selling quickly can’t be slowed that easily.

“Some manufacturing, it’s not easy to cut back production or shut down completely, so they have to build inventory, and that’s pretty much what this is,” Mosely said.

Another new tenant, Columbia-based Mid-State Tire, has also leased space at Hampton Park. Don Lane, the company’s president, said the company had leased 60,000 square feet to expand its tire distribution operations.

Lane and Mosely both said their companies’ presence in Taylors would result in a handful of jobs.
